Privacy
What stays on your device
True Highlights saves a few preferences in your browser's local storage — your spoiler-protection settings and your My Games favorites (the teams and leagues you follow). This information stays on your device and is never sent to us. Clearing your browser data removes it.
Analytics & performance
We use a few privacy-first, cookieless tools to understand roughly how many people visit, which pages are popular, and how fast the site loads. None of them set cookies, fingerprint your device, track you across other sites, or collect personal information beyond aggregate counts — so no consent banner is needed:
- Cloudflare Web Analytics and Netlify Analytics — aggregate visit stats (page views, referrers, country). Cloudflare's runs from a cookieless script; Netlify's is measured server-side from request logs, so nothing extra runs in your browser at all.
- Netlify Real User Monitoring — measures real-world page-speed signals (Core Web Vitals — how quickly pages load and respond) so we can keep the site fast. It loads a small script but sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device.
- Anonymous watch counts — when a highlight actually starts playing, or when you open a league section in the app, we add one anonymous tally to that match's or league's total (which match was watched or which league was opened, and roughly which country — nothing about you) so we can see what people watch and decide what to cover next. It sets no cookie, stores no IP address and no identifier, follows you nowhere, and is never tied to a person — just aggregate totals.
- First-party pageview counts — every page on this site sends a small anonymous signal to our own server when it loads, recording the page path, the external site you came from (referrer hostname only — nothing personal), your country (derived from your network connection by Cloudflare), and a daily-rotating hash that lets us count rough unique visitors without identifying anyone. The hash is computed from a salted combination of the date, your network address, and your browser type — none of those inputs are stored, only the hash result, and it changes every day so it cannot track you over time. No cookies are set. No personal data is stored. This runs entirely on our own infrastructure (a Cloudflare Worker + database) — no third-party analytics company is involved.
These tools may read your IP address momentarily to derive coarse, aggregate stats (such as your country); it is not stored to identify you, and none of this is ever used to track you across sites or build a profile.
Embedded videos
Highlights play through embedded YouTube players. When you press play, YouTube/Google may set their own cookies and collect data under Google's Privacy Policy. That happens within YouTube's player, not on our servers, and only once you start a video.
Highlight alerts (only if you opt in)
You can optionally sign up for highlight alerts — a spoiler-free email when new highlights land for the teams and leagues you follow. This is the one feature where we store anything on our side, and only if you choose it.
- What we store: your email address, the teams and competitions you picked to follow, a random token that stands in for a login, and the date you signed up. Nothing else — no passwords, and never the scores or results themselves.
- Why: solely to send you the alerts you asked for. We don't use your email for anything else.
- Double opt-in: after you sign up we email you a confirmation link, and we only start sending once you click it — so nobody can sign you up without your say-so.
- No accounts, no login: there's no password. The links in your emails open a private “Manage your alerts” page where you can change which teams and leagues you follow at any time.
We will never sell or share your email, and we never use it for marketing or hand it to advertisers. Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link — clicking it (or the “Unsubscribe” option on your manage page) immediately and permanently deletes your record from our database. You can re-subscribe any time.
To send these emails we use Resend, an email delivery service, which processes your address only to deliver the alerts. Your data is stored with Cloudflare, which runs the highlight data and alerts API (see below).
Hosting & service providers
The website is hosted on Netlify (which also provides the Netlify analytics and performance monitoring described above). The highlight data, the alerts API, and any stored email addresses run on Cloudflare (content delivery, data storage, and Cloudflare's cookieless analytics). We use Resend to deliver alert emails and embed YouTube for video playback. These providers handle data only to run the service — we don't sell or share your information with anyone, and there is no advertising or cross-site tracking anywhere on True Highlights.
